There is a confusing and dangerous combination of lane changes and merges that happen along less than 0.5 miles of SE Broad Street between S. Academy Street and Bellwood Drive. During good weather, with good visibility, it is hazardous. During foul weather, with poor visibility, it invites accidents. Compound it with out-of-town or irritated drivers, and it is potentially deadly.
My proposal is to provide two southbound thru-lanes, one southbound center turn/hold lane for Mercury Blvd and Bradyville Pike, and two northbound thru-lanes on SE Broad Street from S. Academy St to Bellwood Dr.
Sidewalks and bicycle paths should be a mandatory aspect of this project, in order to improve bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicular access from surrounding neighborhoods to the downtown government facilities.
