Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s District 9, Ladder 7, and Engine 4 responded to a fire call at Samurai’s Cuisine located at 451 N Thompson Lane just before 10:30 Monday morning.

According to Ladder 7’s Acting Captain, Chris Ayers, the restaurant was not open at the time. “I could hear the audible alarm and smelled a faint smoke odor when we arrived, but could not see any smoke,” said Ayers.

Just before crews prepared to make forcible entry, an employee arrived with a key. Crews located a fire on the top of a gas stove and in the stove’s hood system. “The hood system activated,” said Ayers, “but there was still fire in the hood and in the burners on the stove.”

Crews extinguished the fire in the hood system and on the stove.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene at this time to conduct an investigation. According to Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas, the fire started on the gas stove, but the exact cause is unknown at this time.

“We are awaiting the arrival of the State Health Department to determine if the restaurant will be able to open for business,” said Peas.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
