Four Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department Personnel received the “Jerry Anderson Hero Award” at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Banquet, hosted by the Murfreesboro Chapter of the NAACP, at Middle Tennessee State University on January 17.
Drivers Vular Anderson and Adam P. Brown and Firefighters Ryan Battle and Justin Lewis were honored for their assistance with a baby delivery which took place in February 2014. The crew assisted with delivery of the baby, freed the nuchal cord from her neck, and assisted Rutherford County EMS with patient care of the mother.
The personnel received commendation letters and meritorious service challenge coins in March 2014 from MFRD Fire Chief Cumbey Gaines.
They also received the City’s STARS (Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence) Award in August 2014. Mayor Shane McFarland presented each recipient with a certificate, a check for $25.00, and vacation leave.
