No one could miss the unmistakable array of pink apparatus at Middle Tennessee Medical Center June 26 as the Pink Heals Tour made its first visit to Murfreesboro.
The Pink Heals Tour campaign is led by founder Dave Graybill, a former Olympic and professional baseball player, turned firefighter. Graybill and other firefighters and police officers from several states offer their time and travel across the country in these pink fire trucks to provide awareness and support for women battling all forms of cancer and other health issues.
Along with several pink fire trucks, the festivities also included the MTMC Mobile Health Unit and Saint Thomas Health’s “Our Mission in Motion” mobile mammography coach. Rutherford County EMS, Vanderbilt LifeFlight, Air Evac Lifeteam, and MFRD’s Special Events Team were also on hand for the event. MFRD’s personnel wore their department-issued pink fire shirts. The department first wore the shirts in October to promote breast cancer awareness.
Local event organizer Brad Richardson stated, “The event was well received. We had a steady turnout and were impressed with the interaction from the public. Saint Thomas Health’s mobile mammography coach performed six first-time mammograms for members of the public.”
Richardson added, “The purpose of this event is to promote women’s health and to keep our community strong. Although we do not have our own chapter of Pink Heals, we look forward to one day forming a chapter in Middle Tennessee. A big thanks to all those who came out and to those who made this event a success.”
