Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Districts 7 and 8 and Engine 1 responded to a house fire at 906 Hawk Ridge Drive just after 9:00 Friday night.
When crews arrived on scene, they discovered heavy smoke. According to Shift Commander Tim Swann, Engine 7’s crew made entry through the front door and located the fire in the garage. “Crews did an excellent job of locating and extinguishing the fire and hotspots,” said Swann.
The fire appears to have started on a plastic shelving unit in the garage. The unit had several electric appliances stored on it. The Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate. According to initial reports from Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas, the fire appears accidental and electrical in nature.
“Crews contained the fire damage to the garage, but there was heavy smoke throughout the house,” commented Swann. He added that a Harley Davidson motorcycle housed in the garage also received fire damage.
The family will be displaced. They were offered assistance from the American Red Cross, but will be staying with family members instead.
No one was injured during the incident and more information will be released as it becomes available.
