The Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation Department has partnered again with The Heart of Tennessee’s American Red Cross to host and conduct local blood drives within the city.
The Murfreesboro Water Resources Community Affairs Department (MWRDCA) and Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club answered the call for help as both entities will serve as promoting event sponsors for the blood drive series occurring every Tuesday in August at the historic Cannonsburgh Village.
The Cannonsburgh Village’s Lions Club Building will be transformed to comply with CDC guidelines as the facility will exercise COVID-19 screening standards, practice social distancing, and take temperature checks to protect participants and staff.
To assure further safety by practicing social distancing, Red Cross is asking donors to register online at Cannonsburgh Village Blood Drive or call 1-800-REDCROSS to identify open slots. When using the link enter your zip code then enter the CityOfMurfreesboro sponsor code. There are several opportunities to donate ranging from 1 to 6 p.m., beginning on August 4 thru August 25.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need for blood donations around the country. Although blood donations are not tested for COVID-19 because respiratory diseases are not known to be spread through infusions, donations are being screened for COVID-19 antibodies. COVID-19 antibodies detect if an individual may have been exposed to or previously had the virus at one point.
As Red Cross is so appreciative of their donors’ generosity to give, they will be rewarding all donors who get tested for COVID-19 Antibodies a $5 Amazon eGift Card.
Every donation counts; one donation can save up to 3 lives. The Murfreesboro community, hospitals, medical professionals, and The American Red Cross are all committed to helping others in meaningful ways during this pandemic. Help us spread the word by sharing the link to your social media and urging your friends and family to schedule their appointment today!
