[ARCHIVED] MCS designated ‘Exemplary’ School District and more in Sept. ‘In the City’


Murfreesboro City Schools received the designation of ‘Exemplary’ District from the Tennessee Department of Education, the highest distinction school districts can earn in Tennessee. ‘In the City’ takes you to the Aug. 13 School Board meeting for the surprise announcement.  

The newest edition of CityTV’s ‘In the City’ is available on YouTube and airing on CityTV through the month of September .

Nine Murfreesboro City Schools received the designation of ‘Tennessee Reward Schools,’ the highest distinction schools can earn in the state. TNReady data results indicate the schools are significantly improving student academic achievement.

The September edition of “In the City” also features:

  • MT Boulevard is celebrated on the MTSU campus Aug. 2, 2019, as Mayor Shane McFarland, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, and former Congressman Bart Gordon join MTSU President Dr. Sidney A. McPhee in recognizing the importance of the $18-million-dollar renovation creating a gateway into the campus

  • The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is improving safety in apartment complexes near the MTSU campus. Three complexes are the first to become certified in the crime reduction program. Hear more from the manager of College Center, College Pointe and University Center apartments along with MPD Sgt. Harry Haigh about strategies to ensure safety. And learn about MTSU’s vital role in the program through CUSTOMS

  • Founded in 2015, the Boro Art Crawl keeps getting bigger and better. The downtown Murfreesboro event attracts visitors for one big art show on the Square every other month. Michael Linn White showcases the art, music and businesses who help make the Boro Art Crawl and cultural fixture.   • The Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department continues to implement new efficiencies to improve Brush and Limb collection.     ‘In the City’ is hosted by multimedia journalist Michael Linn White and produced by Steve Burris every month in the studios located at Murfreesboro City Hall.

    The September 2019 episode is airing on CityTV throughout the month or anytime on YouTube and Facebook.
