MFRD’s District 1, Engine 4, and Rescues 2 and 8 responded to a fire call at a duplex located at 444 Forrest Street just before 3:00 Friday afternoon.

Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy smoke coming from one of the units. They were able to locate the fire in the kitchen area of the unit and quickly extinguished the flames.

Crews were able to contain the fire damage to the kitchen area in the one unit. The kitchen received moderate to severe damage, according to Engine 15’s Captain Jamie Bigelow.

Atmos Energy was called to the scene to shut off the gas and the American Red Cross was called in to assist two displaced residents. The unharmed unit was unoccupied.
