Child Passenger Safety Week is September 15-21, 2013 and Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department and Safe Kids Worldwide are urging parents and caregivers to make sure their car and booster seats are properly installed.

MFRD will have certified child safety seat technicians available on Friday, September 20 to provide hands-on instructions for installing car and booster seats at Fire Station 9 located at 802 Cason Lane from 2:00-5:00 pm.

Parents can be proactive and check their own car and booster seats by using a car seat check list. Certified child safety seat technicians are always available to assist or inspect installed seats. Parents and caregivers can contact MFRD Monday through Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm at 615-893-1422 or 615-849-2661 on weekends to schedule a child safety seat inspection or to have certified personnel install a car or booster seat.

“Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by 71 percent,” said Assistant Fire Marshal and Child Safety Seat Technician Carl Peas. “MFRD’s ultimate goal is the safety of the community, little ones included,” he added.
