[ARCHIVED] MFRD Responds to Duplex Fire on New Year's Day

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department's District 1, Engine 3, and Rescues 2 and 8 responded to a duplex fire located at 2203 Aspen Avenue just after 11:30 Sunday morning.

When crews arrived on scene, fire and smoke were coming through the windows of the affected unit. According to Acting Shift Commander Blake Insell, crews were able to get a quick knockdown on the fire. "They did an awesome job," Insell said. "The affected unit was a complete loss, but the other unit was spared and the occupants were allowed to return."

Four were displaced as a result of the incident, an adult and three children. Fortunately, there were no injuries associated with the incident, and the Red Cross is assisting the victims.

Fire Marshal Carl Peas was called to conduct a routine investigation, but the fire appears to be accidental and caused by cooking.
