[ARCHIVED] Gas Leak on Dill Lane

Gas Leak

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Engine 3 and Rescue 8 are on the scene of a gas leak at Dill Lane.

Crews responded to a complaint of a strong smell of gas in the area around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon. According to Captain Tony Lehew, a construction crew working on the new Ascend Credit Union building cut a gas line.

“The pressure release valve on South Rutherford experienced issues also and caused another gas leak in that area,” said Lehew.

Murfreesboro Police Department units are blocking traffic on East Main from Arnette to Rutherford and currently both lanes of South Rutherford are also blocked.

“Atmos Energy is now on scene,” said Lehew. “One of the issues should not take long to fix, but we may be here a while on the other one (East Main).”

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Update: 2:30 pm

According to Captain Tony Lehew, Atmos Energy has shut off the gas and MFRD crews are preparing to leave the scene. Both lanes on South Rutherford have reopened. However, East Main from Arnette to Rutherford will remain closed for quite some time.

Update: 3:30 pm

According to Captain Lehew, ALL STREETS ARE now OPEN!
