Murfreesboro implements a new citizen feedback solution for 911
The Murfreesboro Emergency Communications Center is one of the first 911 Centers in Tennessee to implement an innovative new technology called CueHit PowerEngage to track citizen satisfaction and solicit feedback after a call is made to the ECC. The new technology uses text messaging to contact some 911 and non-emergency callers who have recently reported or been involved in certain types of incidents.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 2:15 a.m. at Greenland East Apartments, 816 Greenland Drive, and found the victim, Darnell Mayer AKA “Deuce”, 49, of Murfreesboro, laying in front of the complex with multiple gunshot wounds.

Rutherford Blvd. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup was exiting the Blue Apartments and attempted to turn onto S. Rutherford Blvd. and when it was struck on the side by the motorcycle.

On Thursday July 11, at approximately 12:51 a.m. Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of Minor Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male subject had been shot multiple times.

Cigarette Burglars Target Murfreesboro Businesses
Over the past two months, more than a dozen Murfreesboro businesses have been the target of burglars stealing large quantities of cigarettes. In one of the break-ins, the thieves stole more than 100 cartons of cigarettes and an additional 110 single packs. The break-ins have occurred at different times of the night. In most of the burglaries, a rock was used to break the glass on the front door to gain entry. The suspects are in and out of the businesses before officers can arrive.

Suspect sought in a fatal shooting
On Friday, June 21 at approximately 11:29 p.m., Murfreesboro Police Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Minor Street in reference to a disturbance between a group of people. Police were advised one of the individuals, who was reportedly intoxicated, had already left the area. The man was later found lying on the ground in the 1300 block of Eagle Street. The preliminary investigation revealed the 25-year old victim, whose name is being withheld at this time, had been shot multiple times.

FACT INVESTIGATION FATAL ACCIDENT
On Friday, June 21 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Murfreesboro Police Officers were dispatched to a car wash on South Church Street about a report of a serious injury crash. The preliminary investigation revealed a female driving a 2016 Toyota Rav4 was attempting to pay using the automated machine, while holding one foot on the brake with the door open. The car rolled forward and the door hit a pole, pinning the victim.

On Tuesday, Feb. 26, at approximately 3:33 p.m., Murfreesboro Police
officers responded to Bullseye Gun Gear & Pawn, 130 Shelby St., in reference to a panic alarm and possible theft. Upon arrival, employees of the business had six male subjects detained in the parking lot. The individuals were then taken into custody by MPD officers.

Fatal Wreck
On Saturday February 24, 2019, at approximately 1:36 a.m., Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) dispatch received a 911 call about a domestic situation, in a moving vehicle. The caller, who was a passenger in the vehicle, informed dispatch that she had been assaulted. The driver, Joshua Williams, 39, of Freeport, Ill., refused to stop the vehicle.

At approximately 6:59 p.m. Friday, February 15, officers responded to a report of shots fired at Summerlake Apartments on National Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene; the motive is unknown.

Aggravated Domestic Assault, Arnold Lane (19-00001765)
On January 24, 2018, at approximately 3:45 PM, Murfreesboro Police responded to the 100 block of Arnold Lane near Rutherford Blvd. in reference to a domestic situation. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect’s father who informed them his son, Andrew Tennyson, 29, was making threats inside the home with a loaded AR 15 rifle and refusing to come out.

Death Investigation near Old Salem and Patterson Aven. 19-1247
On Thursday, January 17, 2019 at approximately 6:00 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call of an unresponsive person near the railroad tracks close to the intersection of Old Salem Road and Patterson Avenue. Upon arrival a white female was found deceased in a tent. She has since been identified as Valerie Jane Schneider (dob 4-29-1976). There were no obvious injuries and no signs of foul play. Her cause of death has not yet been determined, pending the outcome of the Medical Examiner’s Office investigation.

City names broadcast veteran Larry Flowers as new Police PIO
The City of Murfreesboro announced today (Jan. 15) that Larry Flowers has agreed to become the Murfreesboro Police Department’s new Public Information Officer. He will start the position on Jan. 22 and report to Public Information Director Mike Browning within the City Manager’s Office.
Flowers comes with a wealth of experience in the communications field, having worked nearly 29 years in television news. Most recently, Flowers has served as a Multimedia Journalist for WKRN News 2 in Nashville, TN. He held the same position at WSMV Channel 4 News, also in Nashville, for 14 years.

Double Fatal Crash Saturday on Fortress Blvd. Under Investigation by F.A.C.T. 18-26523
On Saturday, December 1, 2018, at approximately 6:00 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near 586 Fortress Blvd. The crash involved a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck and a 2018 Nissan Titan pickup truck. The investigation revealed the Sierra was travelling northbound on Fortress Blvd. when it travelled into the oncoming lanes of traffic and collided with the Titan.

Intentional oil spill contained and suspect in custody
At approximately 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue responded to a hazardous oil spill from Volunteer Oil Services located at 129 Cannon Avenue between West Main Street and Bridge Avenue. During the investigation at the refinery this morning a subject was revealed to be a potential suspect. This person returned to the scene and was taken into custody for questioning. During the interview, the suspect confessed to causing the hazardous material spill. He was identified as Dustin Keener, 29, (dob 11-29-1988) of Murfreesboro

F.A.C.T. Investigation 18-24430
On Saturday, November 3, 2018, at approximately 5:00 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a one vehicle crash near 1002 E. Northfield Blvd. The crash involved a 2005 Honda Odyssey. Bryan Keith Downing was taken in to custody and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Driving Under the Influence, 3rd Offense and Violation of the Open Container Law. He is currently being held at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department under $264,000 bond.

Officers grow beards to fight cancer
Murfreesboro Police officers and detectives are participating in the American Cancer Society’s “No Shave November” for the sixth year. The thought behind No Shave November is “to grow cancer awareness and raise funds to support cancer prevention, research and education”. The ACS encourages participants to “donate the money usually spent on shaving and grooming for a month to support life-saving research.”

Suspected explosive device located 18-98972
At approximately 2:40 AM this morning Murfreesboro Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at 2029 S. Church Street and made contact with a female who reported being assaulted by a male who had left the scene in a Ford pick-up truck. She reported the subject may have weapons and a possible explosive device in the vehicle. Officers in the area located the suspect and initiated a traffic stop on the westbound on ramp of I24 from S. Church Street. While checking the vehicle for weapons officers located an item believed to be a potential explosive device.

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at approximately 2:10 AM, a Murfreesboro Police Officer was conducting a patrol check of the parking area of 2424 S. Church Street when he found 2 individuals sitting in a car. He approached and attempted to speak with them. They were uncooperative and fled the scene. As they fled the officer was struck by the vehicle.

On Monday, September 17, 2018, at approximately 3:25 PM, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call of a robbery at 2504 Old Fort Parkway (US Bank). Upon arrival, officers confirmed a subject had demanded money from the teller by passing a note. He was described as a white male wearing a dark pinstriped suit, pink shirt, dirty tennis shoes, square framed glasses and a fedora style hat. He was approximately 6’ - 6’ 2” tall, thin build with some facial stubble. He left the bank property driving a white 4 door full sized truck (possibly a Dodge).

At approximately 9:00 a.m. today (Sept. 7), dispatch received a call and Murfreesboro Police officers responded to the scene of a male victim with gunshot wounds, located at N. Highland Ave. and Eventide Dr. in Murfreesboro.
The victim, identified as 18-year-old Abanob Saad, was flown by Vanderbilt LifeFlight where he is being treated for his injuries.

On Monday, August 6, 2018, at approximately 9:00 PM, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of East Street and Ewing Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male victim in the driver seat of a vehicle in the driveway of 614 East Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated on scene by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department personnel and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services who then transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Upon arrival officers found an adult male victim. He was treated on scene by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department personnel and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services who then transported to the Murfreesboro Airport for LifeFlight transfer to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

On Saturday, July 28, 2018, at approximately 3:00 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a crash at the intersection of New Salem Highway and Pusher Place. The crash involved a 2016 Ford Edge and a bicyclist. The investigation revealed both vehicles were travelling southwest on New Salem Highway when the bicyclist swerved into the car’s path.

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 5:47 PM, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim at 1311 Old Lascassas Road. He was identified as Dylan Biddle Jr (DOB 5/22/1991) of Murfreesboro. At 5:52 PM, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call at 1807 Greenland Drive for a gunshot victim who had arrived at that location seeking a ride to the hospital. He was identified as Albert Mustapha (DOB 4/15/1998) of Murfreesboro. Mustapha is charged with 1st Degree Murder and is currently being held without bond at the Rutherford County Sherriff’s Department.

F.A.C.T. Investigation 18-14333 releases identify of motorcylce fatality victim
On Friday, June 29, 2018, at approximately 7:15 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a single vehicle crash on W. Northfield Blvd near Tudor Place involving a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle. The investigation revealed the motorcycle was westbound on W. Northfield Blvd and failed to negotiate a curve causing it to strike the curb and eject the driver. The driver was identified as Derossi Leon White (DOB 3/9/1985) of Clarksville, TN.

Missing Person/ Water Search Operation 18- 14502 / 18-14460
Murfreesboro Police responded to 5430 Lebanon Pike (Walter Hill Park) at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018 regarding a possible missing person. During a subsequent search, his body was located and recovered in the river near the Walter Hill Dam. Mr. Corley was 59 years of age (DOB 8/18/1959) and is from Murfreesboro.

As a result of the ongoing investigation Lesean Janell Savage (DOB 4/13/1998), Kyle Fugett (DOB 9/14/1998) and Chasitie Smith (DOB 2/9/1995) were interviewed as possible suspects and subsequently charged with 1St degree murder for their involvement in the death of Mr. Biddle. They are currently being held without bond at the Rutherford County Sherriff’s Department.

As of Monday, June 25, 2018, the Murfreesboro Police Department will officially operate out of the new Police Headquarters facility located at 1004 North Highland Ave. The new location will be open for public business beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.

On Saturday, December 02, 2017, at 8:05 PM, a fatal crash occurred at 2500 Memorial Boulevard. The crash involved a single vehicle, a 2006 Ford Mustang, which was travelling north on Memorial. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree, resulting in the driver’s death.
