City of Murfreesboro Inspectors maintain a pavement management system. The main function is to assure streets are repaved at the correct intervals and the Department is receiving the best return on its expenditure. The Inspectors assess a variety of roads from high traffic to residential around the city to systematically repair and repave. The Street Department is responsible for pavement repairs, such as patching. The Engineering Department works with a city contract to mill and overlay roads.
State Street Aid
The City of Murfreesboro prioritizes paving projects based on the condition of the pavement and street utilization to maintain safe and drivable streets. Funding for the City's annual paving program comes from State Street Aid, which is funded through the State of Tennessee Fuel Tax Allocation.
The Engineering Department records the paving of roads through ArcGIS Collector. This allows the City to keep track of when roads are paved, along with quantities. The result is a system which enables the City of Murfreesboro to maintain safe roads and plan for future projects.
