    ABOUT MAYOR McFARLAND

    Shane McFarland was elected to the Murfreesboro City Council in 2006.  McFarland's term expires in 2026.

    McFarland is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University.  He served as 1995-1996 MTSU Student Body (SGA) President and received his BA in Accounting in 1997. He is a 1998 Graduate of Leadership Rutherford.

    McFarland was elected Mayor of Murfreesboro in 2014 and was elected as the youngest Mayor in the history of Murfreesboro.  He has helped guide the 13th fastest growing City in the country with programs for renewed downtown development, recruiting corporate jobs, enhanced parks and recreation offerings, additional public safety facilities and a renewed focus on Customer Service. 

    While Mayor, some of the accomplishments include:  $250 million of downtown development, numerous road projects, new construction of a $40 million police Headquarters, West Park Murfreesboro, Kasai North America Head Quarters relocation and the creation of a city-wide health initiative called the Better Boro Project.

    The Mayor has previously served on the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Commission, the Old Fort Golf Commission, Murfreesboro Pension commission, the Murfreesboro Planning Commission and the Murfreesboro Historic Zoning Commission. 

    He recently was named to the Organizing committee to bring a Major League Soccer team to Nashville and is on the Blue Raider Athletic Association Board of Directors.

    McFarland is a baseball, soccer and basketball coach. His hobbies include distance running and cycling. 

    McFarland is owner of Shane McFarland Construction, a custom residential and commercial construction firm.  His company has been recognized nationally as one of the industry leaders in construction and is a member of the prestigious Master Custom Builder Council of Tennessee.   He is married to Ashley McFarland and they have 3 boys, Luke and Eli (twins) and Drew. He and his family have attended World Outreach Church since 2000.
