Training Section

The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Training Section is responsible for providing and scheduling annual and specialized training for all certified police officers and civilian employees to comply with the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST) certification requirements and/or city mandated training requirements. This includes hosting numerous training classes on-site as well as facilitating travel, tuition, and accommodations for off-site training. The Training Section is also responsible for reporting necessary training to the POST Commission for all certified officers.

Maintaining Certification
To maintain certification on an annual basis, certified officers must meet requirements mandated by the POST Commission. Each officer must successfully complete at least 40 hours of training, eight of which must be firearms training and qualification, plus a pre-determined number of hours on any law enforcement topics designated by the POST Commission. The remaining hours include topics that are commensurate to the rank and duties of each individual officer.

Upon successful completion of the requirements, the state legislature rewards each certified officer with an annual pay supplement.
