Citizens Police Academy
Committed to expanding its relationship with citizens and continuing a tradition established in June of 2000, Murfreesboro Police Department holds semi-annual sessions of its Citizens Police Academy.

CPA Jan 2019 Class

The program seeks to educate, exchange ideas, and familiarize citizens with primary law enforcement operations and training. It will cover various topics such as:

  • Uniformed Division policies and procedures
  • Traffic enforcement and investigation
  • Patrol procedures
  • Criminal investigations
  • Search and seizure laws and procedures
  • K-9 Unit
  • Officer survival
  • A ride-a-long with an officer
  • Community Outreach Programs
  • Tours of the department facilities
  • Public Relations
  • Public Information
  • Overview of the Special Operations Unit
  • Gang, vice, and narcotic investigation procedures
  • Domestic violence

While the academy is not intended to certify a civilian as a police officer, it will better inform citizens about their Police Department. Our goal is to create a better quality of life for citizens, visitors, and guests.

Classes
Classes are held over 12 consecutive Tuesday evenings in the Police Community Training Room:
1004 N Highland Ave.
Murfreesboro, TN 37130.

Students must be accepted for each 12-week session. Applications may be picked up at the department information desk, the application can be printed out and sent or delivered to the address above or downloaded and emailed. A copy can also be obtained at the receptionist desk in city hall. The program is free.
