School Traffic Patrol
General Description:
The Part-Time / Seasonal School Traffic Enforcement employee is responsible for the safe and orderly flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic within a designated school zone within the city limits of Murfreesboro. This position is considered part-time and seasonal; School Traffic Enforcement employees, therefore, do not receive any employee fringe benefits. The working hours will be determined by the opening and closing times of the school to which the employee is assigned and will average about one (1) hour per school day. The employee will not be a sworn Certified Officer. The employee will be responsible through the chain of command to the Chief of Police.
Essential Functions:
• Directs school zone traffic in a safe, lawful, and efficient manner.
• Uses uniform hand signals and whistles in directing traffic at school zones.
• Works in all types of weather and/or traffic conditions when school is in session.
• Observes, records, and reports violations of school zone safety and other circumstances which may require follow-up by the Police Department.
• Reports to the assigned school zone at the proper time, each and every day, absent special circumstances.
• Communicates and works well with the public. Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
• Work is performed typically standing for up to a one (1) hour period, reaching, using continuous hand traffic signals, and intermittent walking
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• No prior experience is required.
• Possess adequate eyesight, hearing, physical mobility and stamina to safely work in the roadway and direct traffic.

Support Specialist II
General Description:
The purpose of this position is to provide skilled administrative and clerical support for City Departments.
Essential Functions:
• Answers telephone inquiries from the public and direct calls to staff or other Departments; receives and communicates messages, oral and written, to and from citizens, customers, staff, and other City personnel.
• Creates and maintains spreadsheets, electronic and paper files, and documents.
• Processes invoices for payment; codes bills with proper account numbers and line items from the budget; scans invoices for record keeping; and enters invoices into financial software, balances invoices before releasing for approvals.
• Prepares and types correspondence, memos, reports and records pertaining to administrative information; proofreads letters/memos for typographical or spelling errors.
• Researches invoices and vendor request.
• Calculates and deposits monies and issues receipts.
• Maintain files for day-to-day operations.
• Assists with mailing of payments, through US and interdepartmental, and routes to the intended recipient; prepares packages and envelopes for mailing. Assists with third-party package carriers.
• Orders office supplies and assists with projects as requested.
• Uses computer software and performs administrative office duties as assigned.
• Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
• Performs work that involves walking or standing some of the time.
• Involves exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and sustained keyboard operations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must have two (2) years of experience in office administration, clerical duties, or closely related.

Information Desk Clerk
General Description
The purpose of this class within the organization is to greet and assist citizens and visitors for the Police Department. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Essential Functions:
• Greets all incoming visitors with courtesy and promptness at the front entrance; ascertains their business; maintains building security while assisting them.
• Communicates on the telephone professionally and courteously.
• Comprehends and follows police department procedures both oral and written.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees and members of the public.
• Maintains confidentiality about information learned on the job.
• Handles money, makes change correctly and issues receipts for requested incident reports.
• Assists the public with the State of Tennessee Financial Responsibility form.
• Sorts and distributes incoming mail; collects any outgoing mail to be picked up by mail carrier.
• Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
• Performs sedentary work that involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time; lifting objects up to fifteen (15) pounds is required on intermittent basis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires someone who can work all shifts.
• Requires some experience as an administrative assistant, receptionist, or closely related experience.
