Emergency Preparedness

Why prepare for a disaster?

Disasters strike without warning. You may go days without basic necessities or even have to evacuate your home. Are you prepared for when something bad happens?

Local emergency responders may not be able to reach you immediately.  Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. For example, communities, families, and individuals should know what to do in the event of a fire and where to seek shelter during a tornado. You should be ready to evacuate your homes and know how to care for basic medical needs.

FEMA recommends that you should be ready to be self-sufficient for at least three (3) days. This may mean providing for your own shelter, first aid, food, water, and sanitation.
