State law requires all businesses inside the city limits to obtain a business license from the City and Rutherford County. There are some exceptions to this law, such as a business that does not gross $3,000 annually in receipts.
Obtaining a License
You may obtain your business license at the finance department, by mail, or download the application. The initial license is $15 and is payable to the city and county. If the applicant has a business in their home, completing an additional form is required to obtain approval from the City's Planning department.
Renewals
Businesses with gross receipts between $3,000 and $99,999 will need to renew their business license annually with the City of Murfreesboro. Businesses with gross receipts of $100,000 or greater will need to renew their license annually with the State of Tennessee Department of Revenue.
