Mike Browning has served as the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the City of Murfreesboro since June 2014.  As a Multimedia Content Specialist for Middle Tennessee State University, Mike produced video content and hosted the university’s monthly television magazine show,Out of the Blue.   As Public Affairs Director for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security from 2007-2011, Mike managed a five-member staff including marketing, communications and visual communications.  Prior to working in public communication, Mike spent more than twenty-five years as a broadcast journalist including for WKRN, the ABC affiliate in the Music City.  Browning worked in a number of cities throughout his television news career, including markets in Connecticut, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Illinois.  In May 2017, Mike graduated from MTSU with a Master of Arts degree in Public History.  He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and earned his undergraduate degree in Radio-TV from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale .

Additionally, The Communications Department is responsible for proactively providing accurate and timely city information to a wide array of city stakeholders to enhance public awareness of city programs, services, initiatives, and projects; increasing civic participation and engagement; communicating city policy; promoting transparency. 

The department disseminates city information to city stakeholders through utilization of Murfreesboro CityTV, the city website, social media, news releases, and media relations (television, radio, print, and web organizations).
