MWSD Receives 2005 Water
Fluoridation Quality Award
The Murfreesboro Water Department received the 2005 Water Fluoridation Quality Award on Nov. 22, 2006 for consistently providing optimally fluoridated water to its customers for the past 12 months.
The award is presented by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. The Murfreesboro Water Department is one of 21 public water suppliers in Tennessee to receive this award.
Consistent high-quality water fluoridation is a safe and effective method to preventing tooth decay and improving the oral health of community residents of all ages.

Water Treatment Plant
Source - The water supply for MWSD customers is drawn from the East Fork Stones River and from Percy Priest Reservoir.
Quality - The plant operates 24 hours per day, every day of the year, and consistently produces finished water that meets or exceeds all state and federal criteria for drinking water quality.
Quantity - On an average day, 10 million gallons of water are softened, disinfected, filtered and fluoridated. Recent upgrades to the plant hydraulic system have increased the plant production capacity to meet the immediate demand, and engineering studies are underway which will provide the basis for further expansion by 2005.
Elevated Storage - Nine million gallons of potable water are contained in elevated storage. This storage helps to maintain the pressure in the system, and is available even during power outages.
