Watersheds
Lytle Creek Watershed
The water quality of Lytle Creek suffers because of siltation, which is a fine layer of dirt on the creek bottom; from a lack of vegetation adjacent the stream in many places (typical of many streams in agricultural and urban settings); and because of excessive amounts of pathogenic bacteria, also typical of streams in urban settings.
Aerial views of the Lytle Creek watershed show the much greater area of pavement, road and buildings in the urban setting as compared to the rural setting.
Cumberland River Compact
The mission of the Cumberland River Compact is to enhance the water quality of the Cumberland River and its tributaries, including the Stones River that runs through Murfreesboro, through education and by promoting cooperation among citizens, businesses, and agencies in Kentucky and Tennessee.
