Civic Pride Award

Civic Pride AwardSponsored by the City of Murfreesboro Urban Environmental Department and Urban Environmental Commission, the Civic Pride Award program is designed to recognize landscaping projects of outstanding aesthetic and artistic appeal, as well as projects that feature sound environmental practices.

"As a community, the way in which we use, improve and maintain our homes, landscaping, buildings and gardens, expresses an image of Murfreesboro," Cynthia Holloway, Urban Environmental Director/City Horticulturist, said. "This award program helps to promote and enhance this image both within our city and beyond our borders."

Nomination forms may be submitted to City Hall or:

Urban Environmental Department
351 Overall St.
Murfreesboro, TN 37130

Or by fax (615) 217-3035 or by completing the online form.

A panel of judges will select one of the nominated properties in each category on a quarterly basis to receive the Civic Pride Award. A People's Choice Award will be given at the end of the year based on popular votes during the year.

Awards will be made in five categories: Single-family residential, multi-family residential, public/institional, commercial/industrial properties, and neighborhood/block enhancement properties. A Special Awards category will be administered on an as-needed basis.

Nominated properties must be within city limits.

Nominated properties would be in compliance with all city-mandated codes and must exhibit appropriate use of the land and plant materials, effective planning, and compatibility with the area.

Properties will be judged based on their appearance from the street and public walkways; back yards or side yards, which cannot be viewed by the public, would not qualify.

Each award recipient will be recognized at a regular City Council meeting, receive a certificate of appreciation and be required to place a Civic Pride Award sign (provided by the City) on the property for approximately one month.

On behalf of all the Murfreesboro Urban Environ-mental Department staff, I'd like to welcome you to ourweb page.

Our department is involved in all aspects of managing the city's urban forests and is committed to helping our citizens with all types of arboricultural-related issues. Murfreesboro's trees are a big part of what makes Murfreesboro the great city that it is and one of our department's main goals is to provide our citizens with information on how to protect, maintain and expand our valuable urban forest. It is also vitally important that we continue to educate our citizens about the importance of trees, and that we form partnerships with citizen groups, businesses, and others in order to promote and maintain public involvement in the long-term management of them. We need your help and support, and by working together, we can preserve and enhance the legacy of Murfreesboro's urban forests through wise stewardship and far-sighted leadership.

We hope that you will contact our department at any time should you have any questions or concerns about our services. We also welcome any suggestions or comments you may have regarding this site and how we may improve upon it.
