Street Department
Leaf Collection
The city's leaf collection effort is one of the responsibilities of the Street Department. In order to efficiently cover the entire city, the Street Department works one section of the city at a time. We plan to cover each neighborhood of the city at least three times during the collection program.
We are not able to leave a section to honor individual pickup requests since each leaf collection crew includes four employees, one vacuum machine and two dump trucks. However, if you choose to bag your leaves, you may contact the Street Department at 893-4380 to have an employee pick up the bags within a few days. Only bags clearly marked biodegradable are acceptable.
Thank you for being patient and we'll pick up your leaves as soon as possible.
You can help us by remember the following tips:
- Please rake your leaves curbside as soon as possible;
- Please rake your leaves in windrows not exceeding 2 feet in depth;
- Please do not place your leaves more than 5 feet from the curb or shoulder;
- Please do not block storm drain inlets;
- Please do not mix tree limbs or stumps, metal, lumber or any other debris with your leaves. This may injure our employees or damage the equipment.
The city does not landfill leaves. They are taken to the city's mulching operation to be composted and mulched. This mulch is available year-round and is free of charge from the mulching operation located on West College Avenue. Please call the Street Department at 893-4380 if you have any questions.
Emergency Response
All members of this department are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to emergency or nuisance calls, which are normally reported through the police department. Examples of the calls to which we respond: material spills, fallen trees, ice and snow, potholes, high water, missing signs, and catastrophic events.
