Street Department
Fabrication and Installation of Signs
All field personnel are responsible for installation of regulatory, warning, and guide signs within the city right of ways. The department maintains a current sign inventory in our computer system, which is the means in determining sign replacement.
The Street Department uses a Graphtec 5100 plotter/cutter sign machine in to plot and cut reflective material for signs. It will make signs up to 4’ x 8’, but the cutting ability is limitless and can be spliced together to make even larger signs.
Sign Technicians are responsible for the operation of the graphic sign machine and the making of all signs, including street markers and any special or custom signs. They fabricate and install all street markers for new subdivisions in the city after the plats are received from the Traffic Department. This is in addition to installing all stop signs and regulatory signs all over the city. Much of their time is spent in replacing damaged or missing signs. The Street Department sign technicians are certified in the International Marking and Sign Association and use the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices as a standard for traffic control and signage placement.
