Uniform Division

The Uniform Division is responsible for patrolling 48.4 square miles divided into three districts and 10 patrol zones. The Uniform Division currently has 121 allocated positions. Twenty-one of these are command and supervisory. Currently, there are eight officers assigned to patrol 4.5 miles of Greenway utilized by citizens and visitors for recreational purposes. Five officers are assigned to our Community Resource Centers (precincts) in Franklin and Highland Heights, two public housing centers where crime has historically been a problem. These precincts are located within two public housing areas, where crime was a serious problem. They provide police and investigative services to the residents, job and health information, educational information and referrals to other agencies. Officers partner with agencies such as the Murfreesboro Housing Authority, YMCA, Probation and Patrol, Murfreesboro City Schools and numerous other agencies to provide services to area residents.

The Uniform Division is commanded by a Major and divided into two sections. Patrol services is managed by a Captain and is responsible for all patrol related activity. Traffic and Special Services is also managed by a Captain and is responsible for traffic enforcement, accident investigations and the Special Operations Unit. This elite unit responds to serious incidents where special weapons and tactics are needed.

The Uniformed Division maintains a fleet of marked units with many of these units being assigned to officers as a take-home vehicle. In order to receive a take-home vehicle, an officer must have completed a one-year probationary period and reside within Murfreesboro city limits. The benefits of putting marked units in neighborhoods include police visibility to deter criminal activity, among others.

Uniformed Division officers currently work three standard shifts and two flex shifts. These flex shifts began in the year 2000 and overlap the three traditional shifts to provide additional resources during peak hours of calls for service. Shifts are supervised by a Lieutenant with Sergeants to assist.

Eight motorcycles, assigned to individual officers, are utilized for traffic enforcement. The division has seven bicycles utilities in our Community resource Centers, on the Greenway and for street level drug interdiction.

Patrol units are equipped with mobile data terminals to assist officers with driver's license information, vehicle registration and wanted-persons information.

The division has two K-9 dogs, one for drug detection purposes and another for tracking and clearing buildings was added in 2005.

Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.)

This unit, developed in 1981, is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for all accidents within the city which involved a fatality or very serious injuries that may result in death. The team consists of a Commander, Assistant Commander, Photographer and a minimum of five other investigators. members have been trained in advanced accident investigation or reconstruction techniques.

Murfreesboro Police Alcohol Countermeasures Team (M.P.A.C.T.)

The Murfreesboro Police Alcohol Countermeasures Team was established in 1993 with the aid of a grant from the federal government. The team consists of three members assigned to the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift and are dedicated to enforcing the Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) laws. The unit has received specialized training in the detecting and enforcement of underage drinking and also monitors local businesses that serve alcohol and beer. This unit has received many awards at the state level for their proactive approaches to preventing deaths and injuries due to drunk driving.
