Planning Department
Planning Commission
City council appoints a seven-member planning commission to make recommendations on applications for annexation, rezoning and ordinance amendments.
The planning commission has two regularly scheduled meetings each month, the first and third Wednesdays. The meeting held on the first Wednesday of each month is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the primary purpose of the meeting is to conduct public hearings on applications for annexation and rezoning. The meeting held on the third Wednesday of each month is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the primary purpose is to consider subdivision plats and site plans, to study applications for annexation and rezoning, and consider staff reports.
During July and August of this year, the planning commission's regular meetings will be changed from the first and third Wednesdays to the second and fourth Wednesdays though the respective time will remain the same.
"Murfreesboro Planning Commission has deviated from its ordinary schedule in order to better serve the public," department director Joseph Aydelott said. "Because the first Wednesday night of the month which is ordinarily reserved for public hearings falls on July 4 which is a holiday, the planning commission revised its schedule to meet and have public hearings on the second Wednesday night instead. In order to allow a two week spacing between meetings we rescheduled the meeting ordinarily held on the third Wednesday afternoon to the fourth Wednesday afternoon. In order to maintain a two-week spacing between meetings we also moved the meeting dates in August to the second and fourth Wednesdays. Because there are five Wednesdays in August this will get us back in proper schedule in September."
The planning commission is responsible for making a recommendation to the city council on each application for annexation or rezoning. It conducts public hearings in order to gain information relevant to preparing its recommendation. Your assistance will help in making an informed decision. All planning commission meetings are open to the public and no business will be conducted without prior notice. Commissioners and their terms of service include:
