Forty tons of sand make a Beach Party in the ‘Boro!

Who says you have to drive to Florida to play in the sand?
As a kick-off for summer in the city, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will haul in forty tons of sand to create a Beach Party on Friday, May 9 at 5:00p.m. in Barfield Crescent Park.
Join in the fun as we build sand castles for a contest, play limbo and carnival games, groove to beach music and more! All ages are welcome to join in the fun!

Movies Under the Stars returns for another family-fun summer!
Continuing with tradition, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will hold “Movies Under the Stars” for
the 61 st year. “Movies Under the Stars” has been a time-honored tradition for families with PG rated movies and relaxation under the night sky throughout the city of Murfreesboro. The movies will begin at 8:30p.m., beginning June 2 through July 26. Bring your lawn chairs, blanket and picnic and enjoy the show! Concessions will be available.

Small Fry Tri – Murfreesboro’s Smallest Triathlon!
Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will host the 5th Annual Small Fry Tri this Saturday, June 7, 10:00 – 11:00a.m. at the Old Fort Park Trailhead. Kids ages 2 – 6 will run, bike and swim (well, run through the sprinklers) to the finish line where everyone receives a trophy! Parents, older siblings, or personal trainers may help. Bring a bicycle or tricycle and a helmet. Races will be held about every 10 minutes and cost $3.00, which includes a medal. T-shirts for little competitors and personal trainers will be on sale on the day of the event. Old Fort Park Trailhead is located at Old Fort Park, 1025 Old Fort Parkway. Metros to play at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.
Are you a soccer fan? Founded in 1989, the Nashville Metros is the longest continuously owned and operated franchise in the USL. The Metros will come to Murfreesboro to host a home game against the Carolina Dynamo on June 7 and Cary Rail Hawks on June 28! Enjoy a night of a game that is increasing in popularity for all ages. Games start at 7:00p.m. General admission is $5.00 and concessions will be sold. Richard Siegel Soccer Complex is located at 515 Cherry Lane, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Fire Department provides cool-down from the summer heat at Splash Out!
Splish, Splash! Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation and Murfreesboro Fire Department join forces to cool-down the citizens of Murfreesboro with Splash Out! Firefighters will hose down the kids and parents for a day of fun in the water and sun. Wear clothes and shoes to get wet in and don’t forget your sunscreen and towel. Parents, plan to stay with your children and enjoy the water too! Join us for this fun and free event from 1:30 – 3:30p.m. on the following dates:

Thursday, July 17 – Barfield Crescent Park ( 697 Barfield Crescent Road)

“Rock the Pool” July 4th Party & Celebration Under the Stars
Friday, July 4 - 10:00a.m. - 4:30p.m. & 5:00-9:00p.m.
There is no better way to celebrate 4th of July than to listen to music, play games and relax by the pool! In addition to fun games and music, free water exercise demonstration will be held. Regular pool admission. After your fun the sun, join MPRD for the “Celebration Under the Stars” at MTSU. Bring your families and friends, your lawn chairs or blankets and join us for this annual community event. There will be games and activities for the kids, music, fireworks, and refreshments for purchase. Please leave your pets, grills, and fireworks including sparklers at home. 2nd Annual Runs with Scissors 5k & 1-mile Fun Run/Walk at McKnight Park.
Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will host the 2nd Annual Runs with Scissors 5k and Pool Party on Saturday, Aug. 9 at McKnight Park outside Sports*Com, 2310 Memorial Blvd. Whether you want to test your speed and win prizes at the 5k, or prefer a one-mile fun run/walk, you’ll want to bring the whole family!
School supplies may be donated as an entry fee and T-shirts may be pre-ordered for $10 per shirt by contacting assistant aquatics coordinator Nate Williams at 895-5040 or by email at nwilliams@murfreesborotn.gov. A limited selection of t-shirts will be available the day of the race. Registration will be held from 7-7:45a.m. and race start at 8:00a.m. Pre-registration forms are available in Sports*Com or one can be downloaded at www.murfreesborotn.gov/parks.
