Cannonsburgh Events and Activities

Pioneer Day

Held the third Saturday of each April from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this event is free and open to the public.  On April 19th, Pioneer Day "kicks" off the opening of the Village with demonstrations, arts and crafts, food and drinks, storytelling and reenactments.

Uncle Dave Macon Days

Held the second weekend in July, Uncle Dave Macon Days Festival was established to honor the memory of Uncle Dave Macon, an early Grand Ole Opry superstar who lived near Murfreesboro. This master banjo player and performer was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1952, 14 years after his death.

This three-day, family-oriented event is a National Championship Competition for Old-time Banjo, Old-time Clogging and Old-time Buckdancing.

There is a juried Arts and Crafts show, a motorless parade and a Heritage Award winner given to the person (or persons) who is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional Old-time Music and Dance.

For 2008, this summer's 31st annual festival is scheduled the weekend of July 11 through 13. Activities, which begin July 11th at 5 p.m., July 12th at 9 a.m. and July 13th at 1 p.m., will include living history demonstrations and the opportunity to visit with a working blacksmith and participate in old-fashioned shape-note singing in the little white church.

Uncle Dave Macon Days, one of a very few old-time music competitions in the country, is offering up to $10,000 in prizes during the weekend's competitions.

More information is available here, by writing Post Office Box 5016, Murfreesboro, TN 37133-5016, calling 1-800-716-7560 or visiting the festival’s web site at www.uncledavemacondays.com.
