Welcome to the City of Murfreesboro!
On
behalf of the City Council and dedicated employees, thank you for
your interest. We hope your virtual tour of Murfreesboro is enjoyable and
informative.
Named the Most Livable Town in Tennessee,
Murfreesboro is the fastest growing city in the state - and it's not hard to
see why. Murfreesboro provides the quality of life that attracts growth -
plentiful housing, excellent schools, employment opportunities, outstanding
services, recreational programs and regional medical facilities. The City is
also home to Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU); among Tennessee's
fastest growing universities and now home to the largest undergraduate population in the state.
After you have explored Murfreesboro online, we hope you will visit us often and experience the charm and southern hospitality that makes this fast-growing city a neighborly hometown.
I invite your comments and questions. If you were looking for information that you did not find, please let us know. This website will be updated often to better inform you. We look forward to hearing from you.
Murfreesboro's past is alive and well. The
Stones River National Battlefield, Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village, Oaklands
Historic House Museum, Bradley Academy Historical Museum and our historic
district designation have preserved our city's past. In addition, our
residents and visitors enjoy a charming historic downtown square filled with
unique shops and places to dine.
Today, Murfreesboro is enjoying unprecedented
growth in its housing, restaurant and retail development. Our city is keeping
pace with this growth; a 1996 survey named Murfreesboro the highest performing
city in Tennessee and within the top 1 percent of the most efficient cities in
the country.
Murfreesboro's future is brighter than ever and
the city will continue to be a great place to live, work and play. Technology is
playing an important role in that future. City administration has recently
implemented an interdepartmental network that will not only aid communication
between city employees but between city departments and the community. The Traffic Department is better able to study traffic patterns of busy highways and
intersections and monitor traffic lights with completion of its closed circuit
television project. Our award-winning Cable Television Department provides the
citizens of Murfreesboro a front-row seat to City Council and other
commission/board meetings; produces informational shows and bulletin boards;
cablecasts informative election candidate forums; as well as televising the
traffic cameras in morning and evening for the convenience of motorists. The Murfreesboro City School System recently completed implementation of a
technology plan making each classroom in Murfreesboro City Schools a 21st
Century classroom.
