Fire Department

Fire Prevention Division

An assistant chief heads the fire department's fire prevention division. The division includes two fire inspectors and eight shift inspectors. Currently, the department has 16 certified fire safety inspectors.

Fire Department LogoFire Safety Education

Fire safety education is one of the Murfreesboro Fire Department's primary goals. Fire safety education is the key to saving lives and is taught throughout the year. Our main focus is on home fire safety because 80 percent of fire deaths occur at home. Inspectors also educate area business people on fire safety.

Plans Review

The fire prevention division is also responsible for city commercial plans review. All site plans are reviewed by the fire department prior to submission to the planning commission. Site plans are reviewed for access, fire hydrant location, water supply and code compliance.

Fire Inspection

The third area of responsibility is inspection of new and existing buildings. During new construction, Inspectors check sprinklers, standpipes, fire alarms, emergency lighting, exit lights, fire extinguishers and fire pumps.

Fire Investigation

Finally, the fire prevention division is responsible for investigating fires to determine the origin and the cause of the fire including arson.
