Fire Administration
The fire department administrative office is responsible for day-to-day management and supervision of the fire department and long range planning. The administrative staff includes the fire chief, deputy fire chief, three assistant fire chiefs, three shift commanders, two fire inspectors, a training coordinator, mechanic and support personnel. Staff members oversee, direct and evaluate fire suppression, fire prevention, training, and public fire safety education programs. The administrative staff is responsible for the establishment of policies, procedures and regulations including those pertaining to firefighting and fire prevention operating standards. Work includes the preparation of the annual budget. All records including inventory, training, maintenance of equipment, and personnel are maintained through this office. Monthly and annual informative reports of suppression, prevention, training, and other activities are prepared and studied in order to secure efficient operation. Programs are developed for the training, utilization and professional development of personnel. Operational readiness is assured by proper staffing, equipment and training.
Management plans capital improvement projects and timetables for implementation. Specifications for new equipment and apparatus are developed, reviewed, and approved. Overall purchasing for the department's daily needs is coordinated through the administration office. Management also directs the maintenance, repair and replacement of firefighting equipment.
