Community Development
Housing Rehabilitation Program
Home is more than a house. Home is where you are making memories for a lifetime. It is also an asset, an asset whose value you want to protect. The City of Murfreesboro is committed to creating a better quality of life for its residents and that includes helping them maintain safe, decent homes. Working through the Community Development Department, the City wants to help you protect what is probably your most valuable tangible asset, your home.
As a house ages, it can develop aches and pains, which, if allowed to continue untreated, may cause it to become unsafe. If you qualify, the Housing Rehabilitation Program may be able to help you bring your home back into a safe, sanitary and decent condition.
The Owner’s Manual explains the process and should answer most of your questions about the program and how to get involved. If you think you may qualify financially, you will need to complete the Family Survey. You may download the survey or call or come by the Community Development Department.
The Policies and Procedures Manual explains the policies and procedures that govern the Murfreesboro Community Development Housing Rehabilitation Program.
If you have questions or want more information about the Housing Rehabilitation Program, call the Murfreesboro Community Development Department (890-4660) or stop by its office in the McFadden Community Center ( 211 Bridge Ave.). Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Or email the Director: jcallow@murfreesborotn.gov

Welcome!
John Callow Director
The Community Development Department is dedicated to serving the residents of the City of Murfreesboro. Our efforts are focused on benefiting those of low and moderate income by partnering with local, Federal and State agencies to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment and ensuring economic opportunities. Funding for the activities carried out by this department is from the State of Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant.
The Department offers housing programs that assist low and moderate households with the purchase of their first home or owners of homes with maintenance and rehab work. We promote fair housing within the City and offer assistance with any concern regarding rights under the fair housing laws. Our involvement and direct assistance in public works projects, recreational facilities, services for the elderly, youth programs and care for the homeless has resulted in benefits for many low-income residents.
In a continued effort to meet the needs of the people in Murfreesboro we encourage citizen participation in the planning process for community development activities. You are invited to call the City of Murfreesboro, Community Development Department (890-4660), or click the Suggestions link in the left column, and be involved with your community. |
