Rutherford third in nation for job growth

At 5.3 percent employment growth, Rutherford County is third in the nation in job growth, according to a recent report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Data for the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program are derived from summaries of employment and total pay of workers covered by state and federal unemployment insurance (UI) legislation and provided by State Workforce Agencies (SWAs), according the study document. The summaries are a result of the administration of state unemployment insurance programs that require most employers to pay quarterly taxes based on the employment and wages of workers covered by UI.
QCEW data in this release are based on the 2012 North American Industry Classification System, are preliminary and subject to revision, states the study.
The First Quarter 2012 County Employment and Wages report indicates that employment increased in 293 of the 329 largest U.S. counties, of which Rutherford is included. The report measures employment growth from March 2011 to March 2012.
On Oct. 2, national employment, measured by the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program, was up 1.8 percent.
The report showed that Rutherford County had a 5.9 percent increase in average weekly wages, exactly matching that of Williamson County and surpassing the U.S. average of 5.4 percent, according to the study, and it placed the county in the top 45 percent of large U.S. counties included in the ranking.
The 9.2 million employer reports cover 130.2 million full- and part-time workers.
