Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department
The City of Murfreesboro GIS Department provides mapping services for city departments and the public. We are pleased to announce our new, improved GIS website intended for public use and continued access to the MWSD GIS website.
The new GIS website, is a web 2.0 compliant, mapping application, utilizing ESRI’s ArcGIS Viewer for Flex version 2.3.1, and configured using ArcGIS 10 services.
For full utilization of the site, please download and install the latest Adobe flashplayer.
The GIS site has been enhanced to allow for parcel information to be returned simply by left-clicking on a parcel.
These websites contain control point data to be used by surveyors. You can browse, identify or search by control point number to open a printable image of the point data.
Below are descriptions of functionality, which are referred to as “Widgets”, that are currently available within the GIS website.

|
Enhanced Bookmark Widget - allows users to add comments to bookmarks and save and/ or share their bookmarks with other users of the Enhanced Bookmark Widget.
- Add comment attribute to bookmarks.
- Bookmark comments can be added when bookmark is created.
- Bookmark comments exposed via tooltip in the User Interface.
- User created bookmarks can be saved to a file.
- Bookmarks can be added via file.
- Bookmarks can be automatically added to the body of an email message.

|
Find an Address Widget - uses a composite address locator, that enables searching address AND unit location. ( i.e., 205 WARRIOR DR, UNIT 116)
|

|
Enhanced Draw and Measure Widget - is an enhanced version of the standard ESRI Draw widget that adds several new features with the original.
- Add Save to file and load from file capabilities to the widget. This means you can draw graphics and save then to a special encoded text file and then either load it into your map or send this text file to someone else that has this widget and they can load it and get your exact graphics on their map. All graphics symbology that can be drawn with this widget can be saved and reopened.
- Added context menus to all drawn graphics that do two things:
- Add the option to remove the specific graphic that you right clicked on. If you choose to add measurement text to that graphic then the measurement text will be removed also.
- The graphics context menu will display the X and Y for points and text labels, length of lines, and perimeter and area of polygons(to include circles and rectangles).
- A more full featured ability for symbology. MOST symbology options are now supported (not all are supported).
- Can specify the symbology of the measurement labels independent of the text markers symbology.

|
Print Widget - is an 8x11 landscape map alignment with customizable title and subtitle text.
|

|
Table Of Contents Widget - is a simple TOC Widget that includes a dynamic legend component. This widget also includes an enhancement for map service transparency.
|

|
Enhanced Search Widget - is an enhanced version of the standard Search Widget for the Flex Viewer.
This widget allows you to search on:
- Parcels by Parcel Number (e.x. 091N C 00900)
- Streets by street name (e.x. W Main St.)
- Zoning by classification (e.x. RS-12)
The intention of this enhancement is to allow a minimal amount of attributes to be displayed in the standard Search Widget's results and info window, and also allow for detailed or numerous attributes to be displayed when the user wants more information. This widget allows for graphically or spatially selecting Parcel information, displaying it in a Grid window and exporting of the attributes into a Text format (.txt) or Comma Separated Value (.csv). This function should be used in the generation of mailing label information.
|

|
Public Facilities Widget - allows querying for certain City amenities. This includes:
- Fire Stations
- Schools
- Parks
|

|
Snapshot Widget - allows you to take a snapshot from an area of the map and save it as JPEG or PNG file (with optional geolocation files in a zip archive) so the image saved can be loaded in ArcGIS Explorer or ArcMap.
|

|
Google Street View Widget - enables selecting a point along a street segment and activating Google Street View within the application along the bottom of the webpage
|

|
Drive Directions Widget - is a widget that uses a ArcGIS Server network analyst route service to produce a route between stops and avoids point barriers that are places along the route. Its features include:
- Up to ten stops that can be added to the map interactively or by single line address matching using Bing geocoder.
- Up to ten point barriers that can be added in the same fashion as stops.
- Interactively added stops and barriers are automatically reverse geocoded.
- You can calculate by time or distance and optionally use best sequence.
- Route segments can be individually clicked in the directions list and visualized using a polyline animation
- The widget also has printing capability. Both direct printer output and PDF output are supported. Multi page output with headers and footers and the option to include the large route image are all included. The individual direction segments even have maneuver arrows.
Users must include the full Address - Street address, City and State information in the address bar, since this service is national.
- By inputting the “Address 1” and clicking “Search”, and then inputting the “Address 2” and clicking “Search”, or just by selecting on the map graphically, will result in correct execution of the widget.
- By selecting “Directions” inside the widget, yields turn-by-turn directions from Address 1 to Address 2 that also can be printed to a standard printer or into PDF format.
|
 |
NEXRAD Reflectance Widget - shows a changing series of NEXRAD radar reflectance images (severe weather) over the U.S. for the last hour. The area (2 red vertical lines) to the left of the time/date display serves as a clickable button to pause or resume the changing radar layers.
