Land Sale Process

In order to accomplish its goals, the Mayor and City Council have appointed a five-member Murfreesboro Gateway Commission to facilitate the sale of city-owned property.

The Gateway Commission shall:

  • Take all steps necessary to make informed recommendations to the City Council about the sale, lease, gift or other use of the Murfreesboro Gateway property which recommendations shall then be accepted or rejected in their totality by the Council;
  • Present negotiated transactions which provide long and short term economic value consistent with the master plan and design guidelines;
  • Evaluate proposals in part on their compatibility with the Destination Rutherford;
  • Work with the Chamber of Commerce in marketing the property;
  • Enhance and maintain the fair market value of the remainder of the property.
  • Recognize and preserve to the extent feasible future recreational and leisure uses of the property, including greenway expansion and historical significance of the battlefield.

The primary role of the Murfreesboro Gateway Commission is to recommend contracts to the City Council for the sale of Gateway property. Please note that speculative land sales are not considered – prospects should have firm development plans.
