Water & Sewer
Smoke Testing
MWSD uses “Smoke Testing” to find defects within the public sewer system as well as defects on the private portions of the sewer system (from the property line to the house). The “smoke” that is used is not smoke at all but mineral oil that is poured into a fog machine. It is non-toxic and will not stain or leave a residue. If this “smoke” enters the house there are steps listed on the door hanger to follow in order to remove the “smoke” from the house. You may also call Operations and Maintenance at 893-1223.

Smoke Testing - Eventide Area

National 8-1-1 Day

National 811 Day is Monday, August 11th. This day is a reminder to everyone to observe safe digging practices, whether you are a homeowner, construction crew or do-it-yourselfer. Always call 811 before starting any project that involves digging. When you call 8-1-1, you are connected to a local one-call center, which notifies utility companies of your intention to dig. Professional locators are sent to the digging area to mark the locations of underground utility lines with flags and spray paint - free of charge! For more information, check out the 8-1-1 web site.
